Exciting 2-week camps plant the seeds for amazing academic growth in reading, study skills and test taking. From "Learning to Read" to "Reading to Learn"... from Study Skills/Note Taking to Test Prep, our experienced licensed educators ignite that spark within your student. For over 25 years, our curriculum has evolved to maximize your child's learning potential. Students from 5 years ("Learning to Read") to 4th grade ("Reading to Learn) focus on age-appropriate reading strategies. Middle schoolers focus on Study Skills/Note taking and Test Prep. We also offer "Book Club", providing your student with semi-private tutoring to complete summer reading assignments.
Summer Camp Dates and Times:
Learning to Read Ages 5-7 (grouped by ability)
Students focus on the decoding aspect of reading with some emphasis on comprehension. Camps limited to groups of 2-4. Group instruction provided throughout the session with students pulled out for individual work at intervals throughout the camp session. This allows time for each student to enjoy motivating group activities and one:one attention from instructor.

Reading To Learn (grouped by grade/ability)
Students focus on the comprehension aspects of reading with some emphasis on building reading fluency. Strategies designed to build vocabulary, use of context clues, resolving ambiguity and inferencing are used. The concept of active reading is introduced through the use of association, visualization and orientation. Home guides provided for parents to help students practice their newly learned skills after camp is over. Group instruction provided throughout the session with students pulled out for individual work at intervals throughout the camp session. This allows time for each student to enjoy motivating group activities and one:one attention from instructor.

Study Skills/Note Taking (grouped by grade)
A variety of strategies to improve note taking from lecture and from text are presented and then practiced. Students are instructed in the use of such practical strategies as abbreviations and diagrams (Venn diagrams, time lines, bullet points) for notetaking. Each daily session will involve managing a daytimer that challenges the students to document and plan for homework/test/sport activities. Practical experience is provided within each session to ensure that these skills are automatic.

Book Club
Student's school reading lists must be provided upon enrollment. Students are provided with an individualized reading journal with required pages and questions for book or books targeted during the session. Group instruction in literary elements such as protagonist/antagonist, person, theme, etc is provided throughout the 2-hour daily session, as individual students are alternately pulled from group session to receive individual instruction specific to their daily reading. Group size is limited to four or fewer.

Test Prep
We provide standardized test-taking instruction for ISEE and SAT/ACT on an individual basis. Typical sessions are 90 minutes to 2 hours. The last 30-45 minutes is devoted to independent test taking, with feedback provided during the following session. Sessions are flexible, based upon student's availability. Individual sessions are $70.00 - 90.00. Please ask about small group availability. Sessions scheduled at convenience of student.
