Last year's Production of Jungle Book

Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was a zoo last summer when the church hosted a one week summer drama camp and a professional production featuring musical numbers from Walt Disney’s “The Jungle Book.” In collaboration with The Dallas Summer Musical Academy (DSMA) Central will do it again this summer, bigger and better than ever.

Under the direction of Kevin Cook, Director of Education of the DSMA, and Production Stage Manager, Ty Lawrence, another lucky group of kids will be taught theater arts bythe academy’s talented teachers during this summer’s two-week drama camp.

This year’s stage adaptation will be based on “Newsies the Musical,” which in turn was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City.

This camp is geared to the six to twelve year old set but if theater is your child’s aspiration don’t let a year or two prevent you from inquiring about the camp. There are plenty of roles for boys and girls. And there are several scholarships available.

This is another way that Central, the oldest continuously operating Protestant church in Dallas reaches out to the community and stays young at heart and energetic.

The church has long been a supporter of the theater.  It is home to the Westside Players, a theater company founded by former Central member the late Ed DeLatte, who also founded the Dallas Repertory Theater at North Park Mall in Dallas.

The church fellowship hall features a fully operable stage making it a perfect venue for professional productions.

Central is located at 4711 Westside Drive in Dallas.  Sunday worship is at 11 a.m.  You are welcome to visit, meet the pastor and congregation and learn more about the camp and all Central has to offer the community.
