Shelton School completes its annual Summer the Shelton Way program this week for 608 students, nearly 200 of whom come from the community at large. While the majority of students come from the regular Shelton community, some are truly in the family … the employees’ families.

Executive Director Emerita Joyce Pickering has four grandchildren attending classes that include math foundations, computer keyboarding, writing with a purpose, and pre-primary childhood program.  Dr. Jacquelyn Pack, who works in Shelton’s Evaluation Center, has a granddaughter in the early childhood morning program.  Shelton faculty members Liz Gonzalez and Rhonda Santoyo and speech therapist Ann Shortall each have children or grandchildren in the pre-kindergarten program.  Summer school instructor Judy Browne also has a granddaughter in the pre-school program.

Says Liz Gonzalez, who pointed out the many relatives on campus, “I realized this past week that so many of us who work at Shelton have our children or grandkids here this summer.  It’s really fun to see them on our campus or playground, and I know they are getting a quality program.”

Shelton recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.  At the same time it winds down its summer program and athletics camps, it is ramping up for the 2016-17 school year.  Says Head of School Linda Kneese, “We don’t like to go too long without having children on our premises.  A quiet, empty school building just doesn’t feel right.”
