Three to Five Year Old Class

Something is always happening at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Yesterday afternoon when I visited the church things were rocking and rolling in fellowship hall as a group of three to five year olds were performing gymnastics.

The tumbling class has re-located to the church while the neighborhood Y undergoes some renovations.

When I asked the waiting moms why they chose tumbling for their little ones, the unanimous response was “we love the teacher.”

The teacher is Susan Edwards.

Qualified as a gymnastic instructor in the U.K., Edwards is also qualified to teach special needs gymnastics..

“I’ve been teaching gymnastics for 30 years,” Edwards said.  “I love teaching and I love the children” she added.

Gymnastics is the foundation for any sport.

“In the U.K. we say it is the ABC’s of sports— “A” for ability, “B” for balance and “C” for coordination,” Edwards said.

Everyone knows that children benefit from an active lifestyle and participating in gymnastics helps them become physically active and fit. It also helps them develop social skills like listening, followings instructions and taking turns. .

If you are interested in having your child join a class, contact the Park Cities YMCA at 214) 526-7293.

Central Christian Church’s mission is to be the loving hands of Christ to neighbors near and far and to reach out to the community opening its doors to all.

Located at 4711 Westside Dr., it is home to a community garden, a dog park and a day program for adults with disabilities.

Sunday worship is at 11 a.m. and sermons are broadcast at 9 a.m. on WRR (101.1 FM) Sunday mornings.  Visit the website and Facebook page  at www.cccdt.org.  All are welcome!
