Since its off-Broadway opening in 1990, FOREVER PLAID has become a huge hit around the world and a favorite among audiences everywhere.  Its barbershop quartet explosion of harmony has influenced the creation of THE SOUND OF PLAID.  Now, being performed for the first time ever in Highland Park High School, this show combines old song classics and new funny characters, creating a unique twist on a familiar favorite.

The premise of THE SOUND OF PLAID is similar to FOREVER PLAID: In 1960's America, friends who met in the audiovisual club form a student choral group. When they discover that their high school music program was going to be cut from the curriculum, they decide to do a benefit to raise money. On the way to pick up their custom made plaid tuxedos and skirts, their bus is struck by lightning. Although THE SOUND OF PLAID are taken from this planet, through the Power of Harmony and the Expanding Holes in the Ozone Layer (and other astro-technical stuff) they are allowed to come back to perform the show they never got to do in life.

Audiences prepare to be entertained by this musical’s outrageously imaginative storyline, high-energy choreography and oldie, yet goodie tunes, such as “Chain Gang,” “Day-O,” “Kingston Market,” “Lady of Spain,” “Magic Moments” and “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.”  This show is sure to be anything BUT a sleeper – especially to the Grandparents of our students snapping their fingers!

Performances in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium will be held on Saturdays, September 6 and 13 at 7 p.m. and Sundays, September 7 and 14 at 2 p.m.  Tickets go on sale September 2 at the Fine Arts Box Office from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and one hour before each show time.  Ticket prices are $10 for reserved seating and $8 for general admission.  For further information, please call 214-780-3881.
