Alcuin Students, Faculty & Staff Volunteer to Shave Their Heads to Honor Student with Cancer May 30

Event benefits The St. Baldrick’s Foundation to raise funds for lifesaving research

More than a dozen people will shave their heads in solidarity with their Alcuin School classmate, and all kids with cancer, at a head-shaving event Friday, May 30 at 12:45 p.m., emceed by 106.1 KISS FM Radio Personality Billy the Kid, to benefit The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.  Alcuin School is located in North Dallas at 6144 Churchill Way.

Alcuin Middle School student Gregory Yared and his mother Cindy brought the idea to host the fundraiser to administrators not only in a show of student support, but also as a way for the school community to get involved on a personal level.

“My son is leading the effort to recruit fellow students to raise funds by shaving their heads to honor their brave classmate,” says Cindy Yared. “I continue to be amazed by the strong community school spirit and the sincere level of support we have at Alcuin School to rally behind efforts to help others and serve.”

Alcuin School’s goal is to raise $30,000 at its May 30th event to benefit lifesaving research for childhood cancer.

Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only four percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.

“There are so many ways you can help. You can be a shavee, a volunteer or simply donate,” says Yared. “Everyone can truly help make a difference and offer hope to so many children that need your support.”
