The holidays are approaching and I thought it would be fun to create a DIY First Aid Kit as a stocking stuffer or a cute hostess gift for a friend.

This was inspired by Kids Activities Blog sponsor, BAND-AID® brand bandages.  BAND-AID bandages are always something you need handy…just in case.

Upcycling used objects is one of my favorite things to do.  I noticed that I had several cases that were empty due to loss or breakage of old sets of glasses.  They were the perfect size for holding a dozen BAND-AID bandages and a full tube of Neosporin and sturdy enough to hold up to being in the bottom of a purse or diaper bag.

Supplies Needed for DIY First Aid Kit:

• Eye glass case, box, container or tin
• 2 small sheets of felt – one red, one white
• Glue (if not using self-adhesive felt sheets)
• Scissors
• BAND-AID bandages
• Neosporin ointment

Create a First Aid Kit:

1. Cover the inside/outside with white felt.  I like the self-adhesive sheets because they stick well and are easy to use on irregular shaped surfaces.
2. Cut away the excess felt.
3. Sketch a cross on the back of the red felt.  As I cut it out, I folded it to assure the red cross was symmetrical.
4. Glue/attach the red cross to the case.
5. Add any other embellishments.  I added a few red stripes of felt to areas that were not smooth or needed some decoration.
6. Using a felt strip, create a strap in the inside top that can hold BAND-AID bandages securely.
7. Add the BAND-AID bandages and a tube of Neosporin ointment.
8. Add it to a stocking!

What a fun gift that can be used throughout the year!

My kids have been obsessed with BAND-AID bandages since nearly birth.  In their minds, they have magical healing powers.  I am glad that it makes them feel better and helps them heal faster (FYI – covered wounds heal more quickly than uncovered wounds).

Neosporin ointment is a staple at our house as well.  Neosporin + Pain + Itch + Scar Ointment is the ultimate at multi-tasking!  It can help with pain and itching while decreasing the likelihood of scarring.

It all makes me very merry…
