Earth Day is upon us and one wonderful way to get the conversation started with your kids is through food. Today on Family Food Live I will make 5 Earth Day Treats Kids will Love!

Earth Day Dirty Worms

Shopping List:

  • Chocolate Pudding, instant
  • Milk
  • Whipped Cream (optional)
  • Oreos
  • Gummy Worms
  • Clear Plastic Cups

Instructions:

  • Follow instructions to prepare the chocolate pudding
  • Combine the chocolate pudding with a scoop of whipped cream (depending how light you want the dirt – this is optional)
  • Meantime, crush about 10-15 Oreo cookies in a plastic bag
  • Using a clear plastic cup, start layering the chocolate pudding and Oreos – the Oreos will ask as the top dirt
  • Add the gummy worms on top

Earth Cupcakes

Shopping List:

  • White cake mix (need eggs, oil and water) *I mistakenly used vanilla so my colors were off*
  • Vanilla frosting
  • Blue and Green organic food coloring

Instructions:

  • Follow instructions to make the vanilla cake mix
  • Separate it into two separate bowls
  • Add several drops of blue food coloring to one bowl and several drops of green to the other bowl and mix
  • Scoop out a little of the blue mix and green mix into a cupcake liner
  • Bake the cupcakes according to directions
  • Meantime in a separate bowl, scoop out vanilla frosting and add several drops of green food coloring and mix
  • Add the frosting to each cupcake when cooled

Earth Day Popcorn

Shopping List:

  • 12 cups popped popcorn
  • 5 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 package Lemon-Lime Kool-Aid
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 225 degrees
  • In a saucepan, melt butter, corn syrup and sugar together. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer
  • Remove from heat and add Kool-Aid, baking soda and green food coloring – mix
  • Pour over popcorn and mix together
  • Spread popcorn out on a baking sheet and put in oven for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes
  • Cool and break into pieces before eating

Pretzel Trees

Shopping List:

  • Oreos
  • Large Marshmallows
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Clear Plastic Cups
  • Green Sugar Sprinkles
  • Water

Instructions:

  • In a plastic bag, crush about 20 Oreos
  • Put Oreos in a clear plastic cup to act as the dirt
  • Meantime cut the marshmallow in half and add a pretzel stick to the bottom
  • Dip the marshmallow in water and then in the green sprinkles
  • Put the tree into the Oreos (dirt)

Earth Day Smoothie for Kids

Shopping List:

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Water
  • 1 Cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Cup Frozen Mangos
  • 1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
  • 2 Bananas
  • 2 Cups Kale

Instructions:

  • Add the water and yogurt into the blender.
  • Then add the mango, strawberries, banana and kale
  • Blend and pour
