Read Across America and Stonebriar Centre are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, March 3 at 11 a.m. The event is planned in participation with Read Across America Day, the National Education Association’s (NEA) nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2, which is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. 

The Lorax is Dr. Seuss’s featured work for the 2012 Read Across America celebration. The nationwide event will feature the book as well as NBC/Universal’s The Lorax movie that opens nationwide on Friday, March 2. The Stonebriar Centre event will celebrate the Dr. Seuss book and the movie by giving away AMC 24 Stonebriar movie tickets to The Lorax during the party. For Seuss fans who want to be the first to see The Lorax, AMC 24 Stonebriar will screen the movie at midnight on Friday, March 2. 

At the party, while supplies last, each child will receive a red-and-white striped top hat [like the one the Cat in the Hat wears], so he or she can ‘Grab Your Hat and Read With the Cat’ during the morning at Stonebriar Centre. Little guests are also invited to come dressed as one of Dr. Seuss’s characters to participate in the special costume contest. 

Here’s some of the fun planned for the party at Stonebriar Centre:

• TOP HAT GIVEAWAYS. While supplies last, children will receive a red-and-white striped top hat, like the one the Cat in the Hat wears.
• BIRTHDAY CAKE. Cake, while it lasts, will be served to commemorate the occasion of Seuss’s 108th birthday.
• PHOTO OPS. A fantastically dressed special guest and a Cat in the Hat character will be available to pose for photos and visit with attendees.
• STORY TIME. The special guest and his funny sidekick will gather the children around and read Dr. Seuss’s famous stories.
• FREE CAROUSEL RIDES. Children will be treated to one free ride on the Carousel during the party.

The Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration will be held at Barnes & Noble at Stonebriar Centre. The party is compliments of Barnes & Noble and Stonebriar Centre. There is no charge to attend and reservations are not required. Adults must stay with children during the party.

• Pottery Barn Kids Read Across American Day & Dr. Seuss Celebration is Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4 at 3:30 p.m. Children are invited to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s classic stories all weekend long when the retailer hosts story times and activities in honor of the author’s spirit and imagination.
• Barnes & Noble has added four special drinks to its menu in honor of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America. Each deliciously creative drink, priced from $2 to $4, can be purchased Saturday, March 3.
• Barnes & Noble will have a collection of favorite Dr. Seuss books, including The Lorax, for sale during the event.
