Wizard of Oz cast rehearses for showtime

Shelton Upper School’s Theatre Arts Department performs the Wizard of Oz musical February 21 - 24 at Shelton.

Under the direction of Anné Hughes, head of Shelton’s Theatre Arts Department, the cast prepared for the production with a weekend acting workshop in early February with Rod Caspers. Caspers, well known for his directing at The University of Texas at Austin, University of Wisconsin, Southwestern University, and numerous theaters in New York City, conducted the workshop with an emphasis on staging and character development techniques.

Principals include:  Dorothy – Caroline Bowman; Aunt Em / Glinda the Good Witch – Gracie Breitenfeld; Uncle Henry – Jack Podvin; Scarecrow – Anders Vaughan; Tin Man – Tommy Cutler; Cowardly Lion – Kyle Mershon, Wicked Witch of the West – Alyse Rosenblatt; Wizard of Oz – Taylor Gordon.  Other credits include:  Blair King – Music Director; Clay Houston – Technical Director; Beth Riggs – Choreographer; Ken Utz and Jerry Bishop – Orchestra; Rebekah Reaves – Production Stage Manager.

Performances are Feb. 21 - 23, 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (through grade 12). The performance takes place in The Commons on Shelton’s campus, 15720 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX 75248.

Shelton’s Theatre Arts program allows students to fulfill one of the school’s slogans, “All great minds do not think alike.” Many Shelton alumni extend their theatrical interests at the college and career level.
