The weather outside has been a bit frightful in these parts lately, so most of us have been holed up in the house. But we think there are two good reasons for you to venture outdoors—until Nov. 30, at least—to see some fabulous, one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses, and to help “wipe out” kids' cancer.

At the Third Annual Gingerbread Stroll, guests and families are invited to come out to Highland Park Village to view and silently bid on decorated gingerbread houses, all created by 12 of Dallas’ top pastry chefs. What makes the event even sweeter? That all the proceeds from the bidding go straight to Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer, which is based right here in Dallas and helps fund pediatric cancer research.

Last year, the Stroll allowed Dallas real estate agent and Gingerbread Stroll founder Christine McKenny to contribute more than $8,000 to Community Partners of Dallas. She and Gingerbread Stroll Event Advisor Lynn McBee are hoping to top that number this year.

Here are two more reasons to take in the gingerbread-house sights at Highland Park Village’s many shops: 1. All attendees of the Stroll could win one of several giveaways, like a holiday carriage ride for six by Threejays Carriages, an overnight Stay at Four Seasons Resort and Club, an overnight Stay at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, an overnight Stay at The Ritz-Carlton, or two Dallas Stars game tickets. 2. If you purchase a Gingerbread Stroll Iced Cookie at Celebrity Café and Bakery, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer.
