A new movie, “No Letting Go,” stars Turtle Creek resident Cheryl Allison as a mother desperate to understand and cope with her son’s mental illness. The movie is available on iTunes and various cable on-demand channels now, and the DVD will be available May 17 on Amazon.

May is Mental Health Month.

Allison’s character, Catherine Spencer, is based on Randi Silverman, whose family struggled with the middle son’s mental illness. Silverman is a co-producer of the film and co-wrote the screenplay.

Allison, born in Fort Worth and reared in Dallas, has received several awards for her role, including Best Leading Actress (Southampton International Film Festival in the United Kingdom) and Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film (Sydney Indie Film Festival in Australia). Her co-stars include Richard Burgi (“Desperate Housewives”), Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act”), Janet Hubert (“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”) and Alysia Reiner (“Orange is the New Black”).

“I realized early on that this film and my role give a voice to so many parents, particularly mothers,” said Allison, who has a slew of Broadway, regional theater and film and TV credits in her more than 20 years in the business.

“No Letting Go” is an adaption of the short film “Illness.” Allison is the lead in both films.
