Want to make a difference and end childhood hunger? This September, No Kid Hungry is making it as easy as dining out. You can make every meal count simply by choosing to eat out at a participating restaurant. You could help end childhood hunger. Dine Out with No Kid Hungry It’s unfathomable to think about that fact that 1 in 5 children in the United States struggle with hunger. We have always taught our children to be grateful for the things they have. And we remind them that you don’t have to look at children in other countries to understand the value of what they have, children down the road have much less than they do. Friends they may know within their inner circle may be struggling, and yet we may never know it. Having been “that family” that needed government assistance and food pantries to keep food on our table, we can sympathize with those currently facing that struggle. Consider what it means for those facing the challenge at home: It’s the family with empty pantries. It’s the home with enough to eat for three weeks of a month, but not the fourth. It’s the family where moms are skipping dinner so their kids are fed. Again, Colby and I know this struggle well. It’s humbling and heartbreaking, to say the least. No parent should have to worry over the next meal for their children. Childhood hunger in America is an issue of access to food, and No Kid Hungry works to make access easier, like offering school breakfast in the classroom so all kids get a healthy start to their day.
