It’s been just over a year since the Perot Museum of Nature and Science opened its doors to the public on December 1, 2012 – and, nearly 1.4 million visitors later, it’s time to celebrate! The one-year milestone will be marked at a special birthday gathering Saturday (Dec. 14) at 10 a.m. in the outdoor Plaza. And throughout this holiday season, the Museum will offer an array of special happenings including Samsung Galaxy 8 3.0 tablets loaded with bilingual content to enhance the visitor experience; three 3D films; and programming for kids of all ages (including a special workshop where children can create gifts for fathers, mothers or grandparents).

Also during the holiday weeks, the Museum will host extended hours to give guests plenty of time to check out the limited engagement of ANIMAL INSIDE OUT, a BODY WORLDS Production. Finally, Dec. 31 marks the last chance to become an official Perot Museum Charter Member – a designation only available during the Museum’s inaugural year. Those who join or renew now also can receive a limited edition Charter Member license plate frame (while supplies last). And, by the way, Charter Memberships make great gifts for those hard-to-please, difficult-to-fit folks on holiday shopping lists (and members get a 15% discount on gift memberships plus a 10% discount at the Museum Shop, another stop for unusual gifts that are both fun and educational).

The Museum will be open extended hours beginning December 22 – January 4 (see below for details). Visitors are strongly encouraged to purchase both general exhibit or ANIMAL INSIDE OUT tickets (which include general exhibit admission) in advance at perotmuseum.org to avoid sell-outs and waiting in lines.

Details for “holidays at the Perot Museum:”

  • Perot Museum’s 1st birthday celebration filled with music, dancing and cake – Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. (rain or shine) will include an encore presentation from BANDALOOP, an internationally renowned aerial movement dance troupe that seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography, and the art of climbing to turn the dance floor on its side. A pioneer in vertical performance, BANDALOOP stunned visitors last year on opening day as they danced against the concrete walls of the Perot Museum; you won’t want to miss this year’s performance! BANDALOOP (bandaloop.org) also will perform at 12:30 and 2 p.m.
  • ANIMAL INSIDE OUT, a BODY WORLDS Production. The Museum’s first-ever traveling exhibition takes visitors on an anatomical safari exploring 100 plastinated specimens from goats and giraffes, bulls to birds, to octopuses and ostriches. This is only the second U.S. stop for this exhibit, which debuted in Europe.
