Students’ Mandarin Skit Highlights Chinese New Year and Customs
Alcuin School, a leader in Montessori and International Baccalaureate® education, was recognized by the Confucius Institute at UTD for its video submission highlighting a Chinese language performance by elementary students.
Students in Alcuin’s Mandarin program submitted videos demonstrating their language skills in traditional greetings and skits, which highlighted culture and customs related to the Chinese New Year.
Alcuin won second place for best performance in Mandarin among the entries received from schools statewide. The school was also recognized for its video submission of Chinese New Year greetings (Elementary and High School combined), which was published on the official Confucius Institute website.
The school’s Mandarin program supports a shared vision with the Confucius Institute at UTD which encourages Chinese language education, enhances the understanding of China in our region, and facilitates cultural exchanges between China and the state of Texas.
The students’ video not only exhibited the children’s Mandarin skills, but also highlighted the diverse and rich history of China.
Alcuin’s world language program, which extends from Primary through Upper School, is one way it helps prepare its students for a future where national boundaries, cultures, and economies are becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependent.
Alcuin offers comprehensive Spanish and extensive Mandarin Chinese language programs as integral components of its curriculum. Alcuin is committed to nurturing and preparing future citizen leaders to thrive and become positive contributors to society in a complex and interdependent world.
