Alcuin's Earth Day Focused on Air and Wind Energy

Alcuin School students celebrated Earth Day with a variety of activities including a "Picnic for the Planet" in the pavilion on campus April 22. This year, the Alcuin Earth Day theme was "Air."  The students participated in a series of activity stations that explored: "What is air? How does it move? What can it move? How thick is our layer of air? What force keeps it on the Earth? How do we keep it clean?" Classes rotated through five stations that demonstrated various aspects of "air." The Texas representative from "Kid Wind" was also on hand to demonstrate the transformation of wind energy, a sustainable energy source to electricity. Students also experimented with stomp rockets, whirly gigs, parachutes and an oxygen cycle. Following the Picnic for the Planet, Middle School students used science and math skills to build and fly kites powered of course by "air."

Alcuin School inspires its students to reach their highest levels of personal and academic achievement, guides them to become compassionate global citizens, and prepares them to embrace challenges with confidence and innovation by providing the ideal Montessori and International Baccalaureate education. Alcuin School Gala Kicks Off 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign

It was a night to remember at the Alcuin Awe50me 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration at the Westin Park Central Hotel on March 29.  A record number of guests, including parents and supporters from past and present, attended this chic soiree themed “Alcuin Awe50me: Hats Off to 50 Years.”  In line with the theme, guests wore a variety of creative, fun and outlandish hats which made it tough for the judges during the evening’s hat contest.  Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was on hand to deliver special remarks followed by dinner and dancing with musical entertainment provided by Downtown Fever, An Emerald City Production. Guests also enjoyed an array of special surprises during the evening including an airplane circling the hotel trailing an Alcuin Awe50me banner and after party with spectacular penthouse views French fry bar with a myriad of topping choices.

The gala not only marked the 50th Anniversary of Alcuin School, but it also helped launch the public phase of the $20 million 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign: Moving Boldly into the Future that will provide renovations for all campus buildings and the space for the new International Baccalaureate Upper School.
