While 4949 Swiss, the former "Grand Dame" of Swiss Avenue, has more tarnish than sterling these days, it's still a sight to behold. And, during this year's Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother's Day Home Tour, you can behold all three floors of the storied — and controversial — mansion.

The home, which is being painstakingly restored by new owner Cameron Kinvig, was once the home of W.W. Caruth, one of Dallas' most influential citizens. It has all of the trappings you would expect from a turn-of-the-century Southern Masterpiece, including a ballroom that was the site of Minnie Caruth's debutante party.

Other Swiss Avenue homes on this year's home tour include:

  • 5105 Swiss
  • 5303 Swiss
  • 5816 Swiss
  • 6000 Bryan Parkway
  • 6110 Bryan Parkway

Travel between the tour homes on air-conditioned mini coaches, or amble down the avenue in horse-drawn carriages, both provided at no charge. Between tours, relax and refresh in Savage Park. Enjoy great food and beverages provided by Penne Pomodoro and other local eateries. Listen to fabulous live music performed by area talent. And browse the displays of local artisans who will be showcasing their wares on the median in front of Savage Park.

A Mother's Day Champagne Brunch in Savage Park on Sunday from 11AM to 2PM will feature entertainment by Matt Tolentino & The Singapore Slingers, a big-band-era orchestra specializing in music written between 1900 and 1935.
