Fathers from the Alcuin School Dads' Club helped host the Annual Spaghetti Dinner which drew more than 500 attendees.

Alcuin School’s 6th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Family Fun Night was a huge success drawing a record crowd of more than 500 attendees for a wonderful evening of fellowship and fun in the school’s gym, which was transformed into a bustling Italian bistro on Jan. 26. The annual family gathering was indeed a “bella notte,” hosted by the Alcuin School Parents' and Dads' Clubs. The event was catered by Campisi's Restaurant with Italian gelato from Pacuigo.  The Italian feast not only included a traditional pasta dinner, but also the full accoutrements of a spaghetti warehouse found in Little Italy.

Guest chefs and servers included members from both clubs, along with the help of Head of School, Walter Sorensen. Children also got a chance to try their luck at the bingo tables and make fun crafts and pose for commemorative photos. Each year, the Spaghetti Dinner continues to grow in popularity making it a much-anticipated winter tradition for the entire Alcuin School community.

Alcuin Students Sophie Johnson and Nicholas Dai work during art class to prepare their paintings for display at Zoës Kitchen. They were among 85 lower and upper elementary students from Alcuin School to participate in this unique community artwork program.

Students Pay It Forward By Donating Proceeds From Art Sales To Vogel Alcove

Thanks to a collaborative effort between Alcuin School and Zoës Kitchen, more than 85 lower and upper elementary students will have their original artwork on display at the restaurant’s new location at 5100 Belt Line Rd. in Addison throughout the year.  The Zoës Kitchen Celebrates Children! Artwork Program highlights paintings from local non-profit organizations and area schools, like Dallas’ Alcuin School, 6144 Churchill Way, as a community partnership initiative.  Visit www.alcuinschool.org.

Zoës Kitchen is helping support Alcuin School by allowing the public to purchase these “pint-sized Picassos” for a minimum donation of $20.  Instead of the donations coming directly to the School, the students have elected to give the donations to Vogel Alcove.  Vogel Alcove is a Dallas non-profit childcare center that provides developmental, social and health services to children from homeless families.

Paintings are purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be displayed for three to four months. The restaurant accepts credit cards or cash as donations, which they will combine and present to Alcuin School at the end of the promotional period.

“We were delighted to be part of this community effort that invites children to create works of art and put them on display,” said Karen Kostal, Alcuin School Elementary Visual Arts faculty.  Kostal helped coordinate the effort at Alcuin School and worked with the children to develop artistic concepts.  “As part of the program, Zoës supplied all of the canvasses and artwork supplies. Our students used this as a valuable opportunity to learn what they’ve been working on in class and apply it to create beautiful artwork that will be showcased for the public to enjoy.”

The school guides children to become compassionate global citizens and prepares them to embrace challenges with confidence and innovation by providing the ideal Montessori and International Baccalaureate education.

As one of the largest Montessori schools in the southwest, St. Alcuin is located on a beautiful 12-acre campus in North Dallas and serves a diverse community of approximately 490 students.

A recent article in the Harvard Business Review Blog titled, “Develop Leaders the Montessori Way” focused on applying Montessori principles in a corporate environment. The article explains how people need to be encouraged to love what they do. Benefits such as independence, challenge, and respect can be far more important than extrinsic rewards.

The business world acknowledges what we at St. Alcuin Montessori School already know. Discovery based learning, combined with the strong Middle School International Baccalaureate Middle Years academic curriculum, empowers our students to become accomplished leaders, critical thinkers and skilled problem solvers of tomorrow.

St. Alcuin students are encouraged to challenge themselves and they develop skills that encourage flexible thinking, creative solutions, time management and a respect for others. Each child is nurtured as an individual, allowing possibilities for collaboration.  Come see how St. Alcuin can help your child excel by visiting us during our Open House on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.
